Global Warming Is It Real?

mug warmer

The debate about global warming continues today and will continue for many decades to come. The subject of global warming refers to the average increase in the earth's temperature--which then causes changes in climate.

With the earth getting warmer, it may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists debate about global warming, we all benefit. We are being given all of the information available on both sides of the subject.

When we talk about the issue of climate change, the concern is primarily about global warming caused by human activities or by the natural cleansing process of the earth.

We are told by one group that we are all personally responsible for releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels when driving our automobiles or using other means of mass transit, and by home energy usage (the electricity, heating and cooling). The use of these fossil fuels is directly responsible for global warming, which is destroying the earth's biodiversity and ecosystems.

On the other side of the debate are the scientists who tell us that global warming is only partially caused by the use of fossil fuels. They want us to know that the different cycles and temperatures of the earth are part of a natural cycle that our evolving planet goes through.

The debate about global warming is one that will continue for many years to come. Neither side can provide substantial evidence that fully supports their position.

It true that we are polluting the environment and that we should reduce our use of fossil fuels, protect rainforests from being harvested, and also plant new tropical trees in countries where the rainforest have been decimated. However, this does not prove that global warming is caused by these actions or that these actions by us are meaningless.

While the debate about global warming continues, it might be wise if we consider what we can do to reduce pollution. Whether the pollution causes global warming might not be the real question here. The pollution of the environment is directly affecting the air, water and land throughout the entire world.

An action as simple as planting trees can help clean the air. An average tree uses and absorbs about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide during its lifespan. And, in return, the trees will release oxygen back into the atmosphere.

Top 10 Proven Classified Ad Selling Tips To Guarantee A Successful Sale

mug warmer

It's Spring Cleaning Time! The weather is getting warmer and it is time to dig through those closets, garages and storage areas and turn your unused items into cash! Traditionally, this is the busiest time of the year for classified advertising. Motor vehicles and recreational vehicles are especially big sellers during the warm weather. If you are considering selling, now is the time. Hundreds of potential buyers are out there reading the Sunday morning newspaper every week, so take advantage of the opportunity to sell your items. Below you will find some great tips to help you get the ball rolling.

1.PREPARE: Determine the items around your home that you no longer need. Once you have collected these items, confirm that they are in working order and in good selling condition. If items have been in storage for a long period of time, you may need to clean them up to make them more attractive to potential buyers.

2.REseaRCH: After all items are collected, do your research. Determine the value of your items and decide whether it would be worth you time and effort to place a classified ad. Some things will do well on their own while others may do better in a garage sale setting. If certain items do not have enough value to justify placing an advertisement and you are not interested in hosting a garage sale, donate these items to a local charity for a nice tax deduction.

3.WHERE TO ADVERTISE: Once you have the items sorted out, you need to decide the best method of advertising. Most items will do best advertised in your daily newspaper since you will be able to reach a local audience. Online classifieds generally do not receive as many local buyers, but most are free so you may want to place an ad there as well just to cover all the bases. If you are selling a larger item such as a car, motorcycle, motor home, etc., you will also want to place prominent for sale signs on the items themselves. You can also utilize bulletin boards in your local community to post a free advertisement.

4.DRAFTING YOUR AD: What are the most attractive selling features of your items for sale? Decide which of these features you want to highlight in your advertisement. Look for classified ads for similar items to get an idea of how they are written. Check out the competition to see how your item is better or different than the items that will be running along side your ad.

5.WRITING YOUR AD: Create a catchy title to get your reader's attention. This will spark an interest in your classified ad. Always include the brand name when applicable. Price should only be included in the title if it is an obvious selling point. Next, you need to write the body text of your ad and entice buyers even further with the details. Make your description clear and factual. Provide specific details in what it is that makes your item stand out from the others. Be honest in your representation and do not make your item appear better than it actually is. Always include the price in your ad. Take some time to view other classified ads for similar items in your newspaper. This will help you determine a fair asking price for your item. Keep in mind, just because you paid $1,500 for your dining room set, does not mean you will receive that much for it on resale. Be realistic in your expectations. Furthermore, if you will only be available during certain times of the day to discuss your item, make a note of this in your advertisement so buyers know the best time to reach you. If possible, include your email address.

6.INCLUDING photoS: A picture is worth a thousand words. Some local newspapers provide you with the option to include photos with your classified ad. Be sure to include the photos! When buyers have the opportunity to see an article for sale they have a higher degree of interest and are more likely to buy when they follow up by telephone or email to ask questions or to get more information. If your newspaper does not offer photos or the photo option is too expensive, you can use an online classified photo hosting service. Visit http://www.seethisitem.com for information on how to include free digital photos with your newspaper classified ad.

7.COMMUNICATING WITH BUYERS: Do your best to be available when customers call for information regarding your item. Be polite and helpful and answer all questions to the best of your knowledge.

8.SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS: If you receive numerous calls for your item, be sure to space out the appointments so that you will have enough time to spend with each buyer and your appointments will not overlap. Safety tip: Whenever possible, have someone home with you when a buyer is coming over to look at your item. You really can never be too careful when dealing with people you have never met before.

9.NEGOTIATION: Decide before you negotiate, the lowest amount you will be willing to accept for your item. This will assure a smoother negotiation process.

10.payMENT: Never accept a check for your item. You should only accept cash or money orders. If a buyer decides they want the item, but they do not have cash on them, always take a deposit to hold the item until they are able to come back. Be sure to set a deadline for them to return with the balance due. Even though you have a deposit, do not stop showing your item since the deal is not final until you have the cash in your hand. If someone else is also interested, tell them you just received an offer, but you will be happy to take down their name and number in case the deal falls through. This will give you more options should the original buyer back out of the sale.

That's it! Keep these selling tips in mind and you will be on the road to a successful sale. Take your time, be thorough and most of all have fun! If you follow the steps outlined above, you will be turning your unused items into cash in no time.

Using Decals to Build Brand Identity

Using decals to build brand awareness is great way to stretch your marketing dollars. The decal once affixed to a conspicuous medium will remind the consumers at large of your brand. In many articles, I have detailed numerous case histories of the effectiveness of decals to build brand awareness years after broadcast, and print media presentations are forgotten.

Decals also employed to drive sales of accessories of a main product line, or product lines that dove tail with your products. We will deal with these two issues one at a time.

First, the idea of using a decal that the retailer distributed to your customer at the time of sale as an additional sales tool to sell other items you sell. many manufactures have additional products for sales that complement the prime product that sold as an accessory.

To describe how this idea of selling other products with a decal let us consider a not so fictional situation. The fictional part of this example is the company name we will call Heavenly Skis. Heavenly Skis Company manufactures skis and snowboards and sells these products in retail ski outlets nationwide. This winter sports equipment manufacture also sells as accessories clothing, gloves, goggles and crazy designed headwear.

The scenario of a retail sale at a retail outlet of a customer purchasing skis manufactured by Heavenly Skis Company, after the customer pays for the skis, the retailer hands his customer an imprinted decal with the manufacturer's logo. The customer leaves and immediately affixes the decal to the rear window of the car proud to announce to the world of his/her intelligent purchase. The decal now used by the customer to recommend the purchasing of Heavenly Skis and building brand awareness.

The marketing team at Heavenly Skis is not willing to be as pedestrian as other marketing teams, but work outside the advertising box. This team knows that decals do build brand awareness, but this marketing team knows that this decal can be a vehicle to sell more of their products.

The marketing team works out a viable coupon plan with their retailers using the decal. The plan works like this. Each decal has on the liner a coupon printed on the liner of the decal offering a discount for other items purchased at this retail store. The coupon allows the customer to purchase one of those radical looking ski or snowboarding hats at a discount. The existence of the coupon communicated by the retailer or by signs or banners in the store.

The marketing team knows that if 30% of consumers purchase because of the coupon included on the liner of the decal, Heavenly Skis has just increased sales by 30%. Everyone is happy the customer because of the savings, the retail because of the sale of more merchandise, and Heavenly Skis, because of an accessory product sale is always at a higher margin.

The second possibility of using decals to sell products that dove tail with your product. Our same company Heavenly Skis manufactures winter sports equipment, and wants to use decals as building brand awareness, but has a small advertising budget and cannot afford additional cost.

Heavenly Skis has a good relationship with Warm and Comfy that manufacturer a winter product known as Warm and Comfy hand warmer and foot warmers. These products placed in the gloves or boots of the skier or snowboarder to keep their hands and feet warm. The Warm and Comfy marketing team advertising budget is robust, so when the marketing team of Heavenly Skis introduces a marketing idea to benefit both companies.

The plan it to print decals with the Heavenly Skis logo imprinted on the decal and on the liner of the decal a coupon is printed to purchase Warm and Comfy products at a discount. The marketing plan works like this Warm and Comfy pays for most of the printing cost for the decal; Heavenly Skis pays for a smaller share of the cost.

The Marketing team at Warm and Comfy envisions that this coupon plan can increase their sales by 30% and jumps at the chance to tag along on a main line product. The reason the marketing team of Warm and Comfy is willing to collaborate with Heavenly Skis is that their product is an impulse purchase, and buying skis is not. This coupon will remind the customer they also need Warm and Comfy product, making an impulse product into a must have product.

Does anyone see the value of thinking outside of the marketing box? The problem with most marketing teams is they know too, much. If the marketing team knows, too much they never consider radical new ways to market and advertise their products, or services.

I just have outlined two ways to employ an advertising tool in not so new, but be it very radical way. Is anyone listening? We must envision new ways to make that what we think is impossible, possible.

How Outdoor Leisure and Party Businesses Can Make More Money in the Winter and Other Off-Peak Times

This article although written primarily for the inflatable hire industry will show any outdoor leisure and party/play providers (e.g. party tent hire companies, outdoor attractions including theme parks, ice-cream vendors, farm attraction owners, etc.) how they can get more bookings during the winter, because traditionally this is the time when revenue and profits are at their lowest, compared to the summer. Also, with some careful planning the Christmas season can be very lucrative.

This article is split into two parts. Part 1 will mention ideas to increase bookings from new and existing clients, whereas Part 2 will look at extra income streams in the winter.

PART 1: Some ideas to increase bookings are as follows

It is a very good idea to have some form of email capture form on your website, and other forms of communication (offline and online) so that throughout the year you can collect customers' email addresses. (You may have to offer them an incentive e.g. a small discount on a hire or ticket price, sounds a lot, but remember the "lifetime value" of a customer!). Once you have their email address, you can them send them a monthly or quarterly newsletter, so that your business is always in their mind.

When bookings are quieter - such as in the winter, you can offer special incentives e.g. two hires for the price of one, or buy one ticket and get one free. If you have access to halls, where your inflatable or outdoor attraction business can temporarily be located in, then you can tell all your customers that cold, wet weather needn't stop play!

It is very important when collecting customers' email addresses that you always tell them that you will never spam them, and you will never pass their email address to a third party - I use Aweber for my email capture software.

For inflatable hire companies, contact all the caretakers of your local community halls. Explain what you do and ask them if they can recommend your services to users of their hall. Perhaps tell them that you will make a donation towards the hall. Also, ask them if they will allow you to put up a small advert on the hall notice-board - more later on this idea.

Write a letter to all your local nurseries asking them to recommend you to their clients. As an added sweetener, you can offer to provide a free bouncy castle for the day, if they can place your advert on the nursery notice-board.

Whatever outdoor leisure or party activity you are involved in try to work closely with your competitors. Some leisure companies close down during the winter.(or do not do any outside work). If this happens in your area, ask them if they can pass work to you in return for a commission.

In all your advertising (including your van's sign writing and websites), make it very clear that you can provide inflatables or whatever you provide for indoor use during the winter.

Tip for bouncy castle hire companies: Hire a hall for a few hours. Put your best inflatable in there and invite people to bring their children for free. Give each parent a leaflet advertising your services. You can perhaps mention that you will be accepting donations towards the cost of hiring the hall. You may even make a tidy profit.

Recruit an "army" of commission hungry sales people who will go out and get bookings for you in return for a share of the hire fee. Examples are students in need of extra money for Christmas. Women who meet up for their regular "coffee morning". Small local charities, who may have large local support. Some people may be willing to deliver leaflets if they know they will get paid for every booking that it generates.

Contact all of your customers by phone who used you during the summer and see if you can book them in for this Winter (e.g. as a special Christmas treat). Look at hiring out equipment which has high demand in the winter (e.g. specialist heaters or inflatable marquees for the construction industry). Write a letter to all your local schools telling them that they can get a 10% discount or more if they hire from 1st October to end of March.

The five main festivities during winter are Halloween, Guy Fawkes Night, Thanksgiving (for US citizens), Christmas and New Year's day celebrations. Try and find out if there are many indoor events - Contact the organizer and promote your services.

Here's a tip we really like. Mailshot all indoor venues (e.g schools, village halls, leisure and shopping centres etc.) to promote the indoor hire ability of your inflatables or other party / play products. Approach large carpet warehouses,/garden centres /DIY stores to advertise a free kids play area to generate extra trade. shopping malls, pay as you go and sell teas and coffees. Local car dealerships for inflatables and party games, (additional supervision and risk assessments would be needed)

Buy two cheap large marquees and put the Bouncy castles under them in the winter. Keeps the children dry as well!

Visit your local garden Centre, ask them if you can put your inflatable indoors and then agree to split the proceeds. (e.g 50/50).

PART 2: Extra income streams in the winter

Here is a list of additional business ideas including hire and leisure/party/play products which can generate a good income in the winter season, or indeed, all year round if preferred.

1) Hiring out chocolate fountains, cock-tail drinks fountains etc. to weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and other lavish indoor events.

2) Inflatable activities and soft play etc. for very young children who are too young to use a bouncy castle.

3) Hiring out novelty party items and accessories such as giant inflatable birthday cake, giant inflatable birthday arch, or even a Giant birthday card to go on the front lawn, or outside a venue saying "The Party's here", or "Happy Birthday to _______".

4) Supply candy floss and donut machines to indoor events.

5) Run a Party Catering business.

6) Most bouncy castle / party tent hire companies use vans. For a small increase in your insurance, you can use it for parcel courier / odd job deliveries.

7) Team up with other businesses and offer inflatable equipment alongside promotions they are running over Christmas / January sales. Charities are always looking for ways to raise funds - get in touch with some local ones and see how you can work together to raise funds for a percentage of the takings.

8) Advertise your van or trailer for removals in off peak seasons.

9) Supply bubble machines, helium balloons, party bags for an extra fee, pop up gazebos for wet weather for an extra charge.

10) Purchase a Santa's Grotto for Christmas. Run a fancy dress business. Sell small inflatable childrens toys. Run a party planner business and incorporate your indoor inflatables and/or games, also negotiate commission or business with fellow hirers who have entertainment service products which could be used in party packages.

11) Offer race nights in pubs. This can be very lucrative, as it will attract customers into the pubs in their droves. many pubs have a large TV to screen the horse or dog races.

12) Hire a large hall and put up lots of inflatables and charge an admission fee. Buy soft drinks and sweets from a wholesaler and sell them. Depending on response you could do this once a fortnight. (Also keeps the inflatables well aired and dry during the winter months)

13) Get some small bouncy castles and hire them out indoors to local playschools and toddler groups. Give them a reduced rate through the winter months.

14) Target pre-school / nurseries (especially at Christmas) with a leaflet drop explaining that inflatables are suitable for indoor use! Encourage them to put your leaflet up on their notice board.

15) Following on from an idea in Part 1 of this article, you can recommend local halls (at a discounted price) to your bouncy castle customers. This is good for the hall, and great for your customers as they get a discount - put a leaflet together stating 'we do indoor parties'.

16) Send letters to all schools and playgroups etc. in your local area offering 50% off, with the idea of FUNDRAISING and also promoting the exercise angle, i.e kids cannot go outdoors so much in winter!! Get the school to put your company name and details on any letters they send out. Also, you can offer caretakers a small fee for every booking they get for you.

17) In the winter you approach schools to do a sponsored bounce and the castle is free. Clean the castle and give each child a publicity leaflet saying ' we have bounced with......
Result: more bookings, and the school books you for the summer fete.
(We suggest charging the school 10% of takings).

18) Coin-operated kids rides like the ones at supermarkets are easy money and you just return once a month to collect the takings and an annual test.

19) Hire out hot-tubs. Potentially a massive market.

20) Fancy dress parties, office events, (adults and children). Very low cost to set-up and very good return.

21) Look at other popular hire items. E.g. Marquees and mini-marquees, robust childrens' toys. Heavy duty tools. Light garden machinery, cleaning equipment etc.

I hope this article has given you some food for thought and some creative ideas as to how your leisure / party business can make more money in the winter. There are a lot of opportunities out there, despite the cold and often wet weather. Don't forget to keep in contact with your competitors, as some of them "shut up shop" during this time and even go on long vacations to warmer lands. This may provide more business and opportunities for you during the winter and spring months.

Camping on a Motorcycle

Camping on a motorcycle can present a real challenge, because you can't carry much weight or volume, and there are few places to store your equipment on a motor bike.

Most motor cycle riders use bags or panniers at the back of their machines to hold the camping gear. These have to be tough and waterproof - a bit like their owners - to keep the camping equipment safe from the weather. And you don't want anything coming loose and flying off either. It might cause an accident and you could be held liable for damages - or worse.

With a truck or an automobile, you can put your camping gear on the inside. But with a motorcycle, it's got to be fitted pretty much on the outside of your machine. Some fancy fairings (wind breaks) have small pockets, but they don't hold much camping gear at all.

You can usually fit a large cube-shaped bag on the rear luggage rack or pillion seat, and maybe a tank bag on the motorcycle petrol tank, and that's it.

Some bikes may have a couple of large panniers at the back, like the leather saddlebags you see on some Harleys, or the stylish 'fat briefcase' types you see on a German BMW tourer. (I've always wanted one of those.)

All your camping gear has got to fit inside that limited space, so camping on a motorcycles gives you the same kind of storage constraints as a backpacker, except you can travel a lot faster than on foot.

Depending on whether you're riding the bike solo or two-up, you'll want a small tent, sleeping bag (or bags), sleeping pad(s) between you and the ground, a small camp stove, cook kit, plastic mugs, bowls, spoons and maybe knives & forks as well.

Have tea or coffee-making supplies, including powdered milk in an airtight container or sweetened condensed milk. (Anything else leaks or spoils too easy in my experience.) As for myself, I love to sleep in a Hennessey Hammock it's perfect in the warmer weather and keeps the mosquitos mugZ2V0IGF3YXk=#">away from you, so you get a good night's sleep.

Just carry enough food (and water) to make a couple of hasty meals for when you're tired, cold and hungry and miles from a diner or a McDonald's.

Then include a change of clothing and extra socks and underwear. Toilet kit - toothbrush, toothpaste or powder, half a bar of soap (or a small cake or soap from a hotel), a small towel, comb, a few band aids, some asprin or Tylenol pain killers, and any feminine hygiene stuff or prescription medicines needed.

Out in the country or on the interstate highways, the larger gas stations that cater to truckers will have hot showers as well. That can really refresh you if you've been camping mugZ2V0IGF3YXk=#">away from the comforts of home for a few days. Buy a meal there as well, to pay for the shower.

For camp lighting carry a small flashlight and / or a candle. Some will take a mechanic's 'trouble light' which has a long cord and runs of the motorcycle's 12 volt battery. If you're going to be in a campground with mains electricity, by all means carry a mains-powered 'trouble light'.

These are the things a mechanic uses when crawling under your auto to inspect it at the garage.

Your motorcycle should already have it's own small tool kit, but it could be wise to carry a spare inner-tube and a pump. In case you get a flat tire 50 miles from nowhere. Here's where membership of an auto club would be a good idea, just as carrying a cell phone (mobile phone) would also be cheap insurance.

The only other thing you need when camping on a motorcycle is a sense of humor and a large helping of common sense. You also need to show courtesy for other road users. Why? Because just about everything out there is bigger than you are! Ride your motor bike carefully, and stay safe and in one piece!

7 Tips for Marketing to Younger Demographics

The $175 billion market that teens bring to businesses is staggering. What's even more staggering is that that number is lower than it should be. No one can measure the amount of influence teens and young adults have on their parents' back pockets. Often they rely on Mom and Dad to buy the latest and greatest piece of technology out there. But they show financial independence as well; one in three high school seniors has a credit card and 63% of their income is self-generated.

They are the fastest growing market in this decade as their buying power increases more and more every year. The problem is that many marketing firms are at a loss when it comes to advertising to this demographic. These younger demographics are doing new things at incredible paces. They are demanding, connected, and very aware of sales attempts.

So where does a marketing agency begin? Well, advertising to this demographic is guesswork for many. But here are a few simple tips to help you get a basic grasp on the most successful methods teen marketing agencies are using today.

Tip #1 - Don't go traditional. radio? No. Newspaper? No. Magazine and TV? Now you're getting warmer. You don't see kids at the bus stop reading the daily news or popping on headphones to tune to their favorite FM station. They're listening to satellite radio or watching reruns of their favorite TV series on ipods.

Utilize mediums that the younger demographics are actually in touch with. Internet ads, cell phone marketing, even tried and true television advertising works. If you advertise in traditional mediums and expect that you're reaching young demographics "enough," you're not spending your dollars wisely. Spend where it counts.

Tip #2 - Don't sell. Kids are very smart and they learn quickly. sales attempts hardly work on them because they've grown up in an age of advertising. The average American sees anywhere from 600 to 3,000 advertising messages a day. Teens most likely see the upper end of this statistic and have learned to sniff out a sales attempt before it even happens. If you try to sell them, you'll lose them. Advertise your products without using double-speak, buzz words, or crazy advertising lingo.

Tip #3 - Parents are part of the equation. In reality, kids don't really have that much money. If they're a younger teenager, they most likely have an allowance that they'll part with very reluctantly. If they have a job, they'll know the value of money and they'll spend wisely.

So what do you do? Do what Virgin Mobile did with their cell phone campaign. They did a "Parent Enlightenment" campaign where they encouraged teens to educate their parents and also guilt them into buying them a cell phone. Mommy and Daddy will always buy for their kids. Target that age group where parent involvement is most excessive and use Virgin's method.

Tip #4 - Pop culture works. Teens relate to iconic figures in popular movies, magazines, and music. Is there any question why the top designer companies get Paris Hilton to wear their latest fashions for free? She wears an outfit on a Saturday night and by Monday the items sell like crazy.

Most ad budgets don't accommodate high caliber celebrities. But music works just as well. Whereas young teens like to conform to their friends' interests, older teens develop their own tastes and like to be individuals. Do research and find some music that would really hit home with your target. Songs can literally make or break ads. You know an advertisement is doing its job when you see people walking down the street singing the tune in it.

Tip #5 - Brand, brand, brand. Just as teens relate to celebrities and popular songs, they also relate to the brands they buy. Keep your brand in front of their face. For example, the fashion industry has created a cult following for clothing stores like American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Hot Topic, Old Navy, and Express. They plaster their individual brands all over the clothing they sell. These kids are walking billboards and are proud to be walking billboards.

Produce this kind of brand loyalty in teens (which is easier than producing it in adults), and you'll have lifelong fans of your business.

Tip #6 - Utilize their network. Teens are constantly connected through email, instant messaging, cell phones, and other mobile devices. Combine their networking abilities with their passion for free things. Websites like BzzAgent.com use their agents to start wide scale word of mouth campaigns for companies. If you can set up this "agent-like" relationship with your teen customers, you can expect a great response.

Be wary of the negative effects word of mouth advertising can have. It's easier to bash a product than praise it. And a dissatisfied customer tells 3-4 times as many people about their experience than a satisfied one.

Tip #7 - Hire them. The best way to market to teens and the younger demographics is to get an insider's view of the market. pay high school students and offer internships to college students to assist your company in marketing to their demographics. They'll have a really good time because they won't feel as if they're in over their head, and you'll be getting some very useful information.

If your budget is not that big, create some focus groups of teenagers and have them analyze advertisements on TV and in popular magazines. Learn from their responses and even have them come up with their own ways to market to their demographic. Who better to market to teens than teens themselves, right?

Choosing the Right Christmas Gifts for Men

mug warmer

With Christmas just around the corner, many people are talking about what kinds of gifts to get for men. A lot of people have various ideas on what to get the men in their lives. Whether it is a gift for a husband, a father or other family or friend, there are many types of gifts that are available. One man that I know says that shopping for a man depends on his tastes and his likes and dislikes.

So, as we prepare for Thanksgiving, it would be a good idea to start paying close attention to the men around us and make mental notes about the things they like. Getting ideas ahead of time about the things they use and talk about should give people a lot of ideas for gifts. For instance, if the man loves the outdoors, then take notice of what they like to do outside. Or if the man is a professional businessman, then see what kinds of things he has and might need. If the man likes to watch television or play video games, then you know which direction to head.

Once you have watched the men in your life and made some observations about important interests and things in their lives, then you can begin to creatively think of ideas for each. The benefit of starting your observations before Thanksgiving is so you can start finding great gifts on sale that might be perfect for the men in your life. If you find that one of your men likes to watch television and movies, then you start to watch for sales on videos and things that would be beneficial to someone who likes watching movies. It is a good idea to try to find out what kinds shows they like to watch, like old movies, television series, comedies, romance, action or dramas. It is beneficial to have a month to watch for sales on videos or DVDs so you can get more for your money so you can get old television show DVDs, like All in the Family, Bonanza, M*A*S*H, Forest Grump, Liar, Liar, Contact, Air Force One, or even Gunsmoke or Star Trek.

If you discover that one of the men in your life loves the outdoors, then it can be fun to see what kinds of things they already own and use. Is it a sporting interest, a camping interest, or hunting or fishing interest? There is a very large sporting goods store, called Bass Pro shops that has anything that you could imagine to give to the man who loves the outdoors. If you are not sure what to give, then a gift card is always appreciated by a sportsman.

For those who are professional businessmen, there are some great personalized items that are sure to be big hits. Things Remembered is a good store for business equipment, as well as Office Depot and eve Wal-Mart. Some of the things that are sure to be appreciated are the man's name engraved on a fine pen, a card holder, a portfolio, a desk set, clock or mug and warmer. Something personal and thoughtful is always appreciated by someone who is proud of what they do.

A great gift for gamers is a gift card to a local game store. That allows the man to buy a video game that they want or some kind of video accessories. Gift cards are a great idea for almost any man although there are some who think they are not very personal. I know that we enjoy getting gift cards for entertainment because we would not normally go to various places unless we had a gift card. For young men, clothing gift cards are a good idea as young people have a different taste in clothes and styles.

shopping for a man depends on his tastes as I said, but if you can not determine what their interests or taste is and have no idea and can not get any ideas from looking around them, then you can always go the traditional route of Christmas presents. Some men will like monogrammed hankies, electric razors, or tools. Of course there is always the gift card for movies or restaurants that allows the man to use his gift to enjoy a night out with his wife or girlfriend. That is one way to give two gifts at once, and is sure to be appreciated and enjoyed.

High School Senior Portraits - A DIY Guide

A good portrait high school is a precious memory. In the seventies, when I was a high school all forced to go into the studio contract. All the boys wore the same style tuxedo with ruffled shirt and bow tie. All the girls wore a simple black dress and holding a single rose.

These were not senior portraits. They were mug shots.

Show today's progressive

Today, high school senior portraits are very different. Trainmay still have a contract photographer, but much more casual portraits can be submitted for inclusion in the yearbook. You can hire a professional photographer or shoot himself. If you are inclined to read it yourself.

You want to check with your child's school for special instructions for submission of images. There are some rules to the big picture, pose, clothing or other limitations permitted. Warning, some details before embarking on the proper strokePortraits.

Please contact your children first

The first thing to do is talk to your high school students. You may have certain ideas about her picture. Or they want a formal portrait can only offer a professional studio. many local photographers specialize in portraits of high quality.

If the senior is ready to leave Mom and Dad do not read every aspect of the portrait to discuss with them. Maybe you want to make a certain kind of portrait, butmake sure that they shoot their way. Portraits relaxed with his guitar, sports equipment, new car or other personal element makes for a memorable picture.

Position

Look around your house and yard. It could be the perfect place for a portrait. Be sure to look in the background clutter. Move furniture or other objects to create the perfect backdrop.

If your child has a favorite local park or garden, to go there. Do not go in the middleDay when the light is harsh. Light from just above causes dark "raccoon eyes". Early in the morning or at the end of the day is better. The light casts a pleasant shade and gives a warmer golden sheen to your photos.

If lunch is the only option, you can use your child in the shade under a tree or roof line of the building. It will change your white balance in shadows or pictures are too blue. Be sure to keep them on the edge of light and shadow. With a simpleReflector (white foam board or reflector commercially manufactured) can help fill in the shadows and the colors pop.

Equipment

Generally, a P & S camera will not give you the best results. A digital SLR with a telephoto lens and light of the external flash provides the best results and give you maximum flexibility. With a telephoto lens of 70 mm and 105 mm can separate the subject from the background.

A flash will help fill in the shade whenshooting outdoors or potentially provide all the light if shooting indoors. Bounce the light from your flash off the ceiling or side wall for softer more pleasing light. This may take some experimentation if you've not tried it before.

Armed with the right equipment and techniques you can produce a great portrait of your high school senior. Of course, a happy smiling face will help too.

Accessorizing Your Gifts in a Jar

Presentation is everything! Making gifts in a jar are a wonderful, personal yet inexpensive way to show someone you care. There really is no end to the ideas a person can come up with, let your creativity flow and think also about who the gift is for to really make it especially for them. Jar gifts are a wonderful, creative yet inexpensive ways to give gifts to family, friends and teachers and other loved ones.

Are you helping a child to make the gift? If the gift is from a child for a grandparent, parent or teacher, decoupage the child's photo on the outside of the jar, then trim the edges of the photo with lace or some other finishing type of ribbon. The child could even paint a little something on the opposite side of the jar or his or her little handprint with paint.

One common way to decorate a jar is take some fabric and cut a circle, square or heart shape out of the fabric that is 6 - 8 inches across. You can use pinking shears or other decorative type scissors to edge the fabric. Lace can also be sewn as a trim to the fabric. Place the inner round section of the jar's lid on the jar and center the fabric on that. Screw the other section of the lid in place to hold the fabric. Fluff out the fabric where it comes out from under the lid.

You can use already decorated type jars, or standard canning jars. The most common sizes are the pint and quart sized jars, but baby jars are also great for smaller portion drink or spice type mix gifts.

Hang tags can be made either by hand, computer graphics or a label glued to the jar itself, but these can be customized to a central theme if desired. However you choose to do this, they will need the recipe's final instructions. Try your hand at calligraphy!

There are many wonderful recipes that can be made specifically designed for jars. These include soup mixes, spice mixes, cookie and other baked goods recipes, coffee and creamer recipes and so many more. These can be quite easy to make ahead of time, so you always have a gift you can grab whenever you need one, especially great for those last minute gift needs, or for the person who seems to have everything and is difficult to buy for.

You can paint the jar before filling it. Buy paint that is specially designed for glass and follow the specific directions. Can't paint? Try finding a card or picture or something you'd like to put on the jar, and get it on paper. Place the paper inside the jar, and then simply let your painting basically be tracing the design and adding your own personal touches to it. Again, this can really be used for a theme and the jar itself will remain a keepsake long after the recipe has been used.

Layer the ingredients for a beautiful effect. Put at the bottom layers the finest ingredients, like flour but be sure to mix in the baking sodas, salt, etc that's called for in the recipes. You can use a funnel to help keep things orderly. If the flour dusts the rest of the jar, let it settle a while then gently wipe the jar with a paper towel before adding the rest of the layers. Brown sugar can be packed down to save a bit of space.

You can accessorize your jar gifts by either gluing dried flowers, pinecones, beads, shells or whatever to the top of the jars as well. Or tie small items with ribbon or raffia to the jars. Common items that work well are measuring spoons, tiny whisks, cookie cutter, ornaments, cinnamon bark, vanilla beans or any other small whimsical item you may find.

There are many beautiful ribbons out there and different styles and sizes of bows can be made and simply glued on to the lid. Lace can also be hot glued around the rim of the jar.

For a holiday themed jar try a luscious hot cocoa mix or other goodie recipe, gluing some wrapping paper decor around various sides of the jar, or you can use some glitter paint for a snow type theme. For a Wild West theme, try perhaps a bean soup recipe, wrap your jar in a bandanna, or use the bandanna itself as tied around the lid. Perhaps you can find a cowboy boot or hat graphic to decoupage on the jar itself, or paint one on.

Get creative in how you want to present your jar gift. This might mean a gift basket filled with several jar gifts, or simply one with other components making up the whole gift basket

What about the tea lover you know? Try some small baby jars filled with different flavored teas, cocoas and coffee mixes and put in a basket with a coffee mug and muffin or scone. Paint the jar lids coordinating colors to match the mug. Perhaps adding some gourmet tea bags and cinnamon sticks would be a nice touch as well. Let your creativity guide your senses.

Will Self Hypnosis Work For You? Find Out If You Can Be Hypnotized Now!

You've heard it before... Self hypnosis can change your life!

But will self hypnosis work for you?

Just about everyone has heard of hypnosis, and it carries a lot of mystique. many people fear it thinking they can be forced to do things they normally wouldn't do (which is not true), and others embrace hypnosis for all its benefits.

Are you curious? Would you like to know if you can be hypnotized?... Well, let's find out right now with this simple test. You can take the test right now sitting in front of your computer.

To take this test, either read through this article and take it from memory, or record yourself reading the article, and then take the test listening to your recording.

Sit comfortably with your arms hanging straight down by your sides... close your eyes... take a deep breath... and slowly exhale. Relax your whole body... from your toes, your feet, and your legs... to your chest, your arms,... and your neck and head.

Now imagine there is a metal, silver-colored bucket full of ice water next to your left hand; it has a 3-inch layer of ice cubes floating in the water. The outside of the bucket is dripping with condensation.

Now imagine your left hand is hanging down submerged in the ice water. Feel all the ice cubes pushing against your hand. The water is really... really cold, and it feels like the ice cubes are starting to freeze into a solid sheet of ice.

There's a tingling feeling under your fingernails that's moving up your fingers and hand towards your wrist. It is so cold, your hand is throbbing... and starting to feel numb. The numbness is really uncomfortable, so you lift your hand out of the ice water, and the bucket is replaced with a red plastic bucket of warm water.

Your hand is starting to feel much better; the throbbing has stopped, and the tingling is coming back as your hand thaws out and gets warmer and warmer. Now, your hand is warm and you can feel the warmth working its way up your arm making you feel comfortable all over.... Now open your eyes.

This test is called the "temperature suggestibility test".

Did your hand actually feel cold? Did it throb, tingle, or feel numb?... Was it uncomfortable?... Did your arm or the rest of you feel cold? Did you shiver?

How does your hand and arm feel now? Are they warm and comfortable?

If you experienced any of these effects, you can be hypnotized. The more real this experience felt to you, the deeper your hypnotic trance can be, and the better hypnotic suggestions will work for you.

Why does this test work?

There are fundamentally two abilities you need to be hypnotizable:

(1) You need to be able to relax and simultaneously focus your imagination?
(2) You need to be able to set aside the critical, logical nature of your conscious mind enough to communicate with your subconscious mind?

If you felt the effects of this simple test, then you have these abilities. The last thing you need for self hypnosis to work for you is a desire to change and improve your life.

WARNING: Not everyone will react to this test. If you had no reaction, it could be because you are reading the article instead of relaxing and hearing the suggestion, or it could be you need more time to relax and focus. If you did not react to this test, it does NOT mean you can not be hypnotized. It just means you need to try something another approach.
